About the role

Overview

Kapital HR is seeking an experienced freelancer/contractor to support one of its clients in leading AI/ML initiatives. In this role, IT Project Manager for AI Software Projects Development, you will bridge the gap between technical data science teams and business stakeholders, ensuring the successful delivery of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions. Unlike traditional IT projects, AI projects are data-centric and highly iterative, requiring a manager who understands model lifecycles, data quality, and ethical compliance.

  • Oversee AI projects from ideation to deployment, including defining scope, setting realistic milestones, and managing project plans, budgets and timelines;
  • Secure resources, coordinate diverse teams of data scientists, ML engineers, developers, and business analysts to ensure technical feasibility meets business goals;
  • Collaborate with data teams to ensure data sourcing, labelling, and cleaning processes meet high-quality standards for model training;
  • Translate complex AI/ML concepts into actionable business insights for non-technical stakeholders and executive leadership;
  • Identify potential biases in algorithms, ensure data privacy compliance (e.g. GDPR, EU AI Act), and mitigate risks related to model performance;
  • Oversee post-deployment performance tracking and retraining schedules to prevent model degradation over time.
Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related technical field;
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) or AgilePM, supplemented by AI-specific certifications (from Google or IBM) – ideal;
  • Strong grasp of AI/ML fundamentals (Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Neural Networks) and familiarity with tools like PyTorch, TensorFlow, Azure ML, or AWS SageMaker;
  • Proficiency in Agile and Scrum to handle the experimental nature of AI development;
  • Experience using Version Control tools (Jira, Confluence, Trello, and Slack), Collaboration & Planning platforms (GitHub, GitLab), and AI-powered Project Management solutions (Spinach AI, ClickUp, etc.);
  • Ability to evaluate data quality, knowledge how data is sourced labeled and cleaned, understand data pipelines, and use visualisation tools like Power BI or Tableau;
  • Operate in environments of constant change, analyse evolving model results, make judgment calls when performance degrades, pivot quickly when data reveals new insights, constantly reassessing what’s possible and what’s working;
  • Confidently lead deep technical discussions and stay ahead of the curve by rapidly mastering emerging AI and software concepts;
  • Deploy creative, lightweight frameworks that favour speed and iteration without disrupting the broader organisation’s rhythm;
  • Leverage a proven track record of shipping complex enterprise software, maintaining a meticulous eye for detail and an uncompromising bar for product quality;
  • Build high-trust partnerships with customer-facing teams, rooted in deep empathy for the end-user’s pain points and goals;
  • Maintain sharp judgment and a steady hand during high-pressure cycles or “crunch time”
